Firstly, apologies for the lack of updates over the past week or so — I’ll explain why below.
We’ve finally had some much-needed rain, and it’s already making a big difference to the courses. Combined with our aeration and maintenance programme, we’re seeing a rapid recovery. This week we’ve also begun a light autumn feed on the fairways — the first in many weeks due to the dry conditions. This will greatly aid recovery, strengthen these areas, and boost both presentation and performance well into the early winter months. You’ll also notice the new lines of dwarf rye grass appearing on the tees. With the current forecast, these areas should improve even further after what has been a challenging spell.
The aeration and top-dressing programme went in smoothly, and as with last year, we benefitted from getting this done early in August.
It’s been a very busy couple of weeks, with some major events that have been extremely well received. Alnwick Gardens, Tyne Tees TV, and county events have brought many visitors recently. We do apologise, however, for the scheduling issue last Thursday when a county admin error meant their event was not pre-booked and had to run at the same time as Alnwick Gardens.
Last week we were also preparing for a day of filming with The Golf Channel. Charlotte Naughton, who will represent Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup in New York in the coming weeks, was featured in a special segment. This will be shown during the Ryder Cup on Sky Sports here in the UK, on The Golf Channel in the US, and by their global broadcast partners. It’s a testament to how impressive Charlotte is, and it’s also fantastic exposure for her coach Paul and for our club on an international stage. To give you an idea of her ability, she played 34 holes in the Junior League final day and finished an incredible -14. We’ll share the broadcast details once they’re confirmed.
This Sunday we’re proud to host the Northern Golfer Magazine Champion of Champions, in which our very own Andy Cunningham will be competing. Best of luck, Andy!
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the courses as the favourable weather continues.
Best regards,
Graham and the Team
